Princes Trust
We are the UK’s leading charity for young people. We help young people aged between 14 and 30 to overcome barriers and get their lives working. We aim to support around 4000 young people in the North West every year.
We encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves – helping them to build the life they choose rather than the one they’ve ended up with.
We deliver practical help that makes a real difference.
- We provide financial support, training and information to help young people to realise their potential, so that they have real choices about their future
- We provide guidance and volunteer mentors to help young people set realistic goals, build their confidence and resilience to keep them going and achieve positive results
- We give young people a taste of what’s out there and the opportunity to try new things
Every year in the North West, we aim to support nearly 5,000 young people, including:
- 600 young people to start up their own business
- over 1000 young people through our personal development programmes
- 800 young people through our school-based xl clubs
- around 200 young people through a unique mentoring project in East Lancashire, encouraging community cohesion
- hundreds more through small cash grants, individual mentoring and local group projects
We work with some of the hardest to reach young people in our Region – young people who are struggling in school, have been in trouble with the law, are in or have been in the care system and the long-term unemployed.
In the North West:
- unemployment stands at 5.6% with 41,000 young people aged between 16 and 24
- there are 4,000 young people leaving the statutory care system each year in the North West, 930 of whom are 16
- 5.8% of school leavers in our Region have no qualifications – i.e. 5000 young people
- 25% of the regional population experience literacy problems
- 15.6% of young people (10-20) have had court proceedings against them
Where Our Money Goes…
For around £2,500, we can match a young person who has just left the care system with a trained volunteer mentor.
For just over £4,000 we can help a young person set up their own business by proving loans, grants and ongoing support.
For under £5,000 We can help a group of 14-16 year-olds develop their motivation, team work, personal skills and life chances through our in-school clubs.
For less than £12,500 we can help a team of 16 – 25 year-olds improve their confidence, personal skills and job chances through our personal development courses.
Get Involved…
Could you guide a young person on the road to success? The Prince’s Trust in the North West is continually growing its specialist membership of 1000+ Mentors. Our Mentors work with young people to develop their skills, improve their motivation, confidence and self esteem.
The Prince’s Trust supports business start-ups that high street banks would rarely touch. As well as offering grants and loans, we provide advice and support through specialist volunteer Business Mentors.
By sharing your valuable skills and experience with someone who’s just starting their own business, you could make a huge difference at a critical time.
