VOTE OF CONFIDENCE BOOST FOR TMP
The new Chief Executive of The Mersey Partnership, Lorraine Rogers, has been given a boost by the findings of a poll conducted by business lobby group, Downtown Liverpool In Business (DLIB).
Following calls from senior Liverpool councillors for the inward investment and tourism agency to be wound up, DLIB polled its members and supporters asking the question 'Should The Mersey Partnership be scrapped?'
Over 80% of the 1,000 plus respondents said no - giving a resounding vote of confidence to TMP.
DLIB Chairman Frank McKenna commented:
" Clearly our membership believes that TMP is doing a good job, a fact reflected in the major increase in visitor numbers to our region that have just been announced.
" It seems that some council Members have underestimated the popularity of TMP among the business community, and perhaps a recognition by the private sector that Liverpool must work in partnership with its city-region neighbours in Knowsley, Sefton, Wirral and beyond, to maximise our full potential."
" With a new Chief Executive now on board, we will be waiting with interest to see what kind of vision she has for the future of the organisation. The one bug bear that DLIB members have consistently had, is the name of the agency. There is strong support for a name change that would replace the word Merseyside with Liverpool city region.".
