COUNCIL LEADER TO ADDRESS PROPERTY SECTOR

LIVERPOOL’S ill fated tall buildings policy and fears of delay on key strategic schemes will come under debate when the city’s council leader addresses leading property firms today (Monday).

Warren Bradley is to address a range of business men and women working within the sector at the latest Liverpool Property Forum this afternoon.

And among the topics under debate will be Mr Bradley’s much-welcomed decision to axe the tall buildings policy and fears over whether key schemes such as the King’s Dock Arena and waterfront museum will be completed on time.

As such, the event promises to prompt a lively and enlightening debate, according to host, Dowtown Liverpool in Business chairman, Frank McKenna.

“Having listened with interest to the advice of the leader of Manchester City Council, Richard Leese, earlier this year, it will be extremely interesting to hear Mr Bradley’s views on where our city is heading,” said Mr McKenna.

“There is great optimism within the sector for the job that Mr Bradley is doing, from the atmosphere of openness he is helping to promote to his scrapping of the ill-fated and ill-considered Tall Buildings Policy.

“But there is still more that the sector would like him to be doing, and more that Mr Bradley would like the sector to be doing – so it promises to be an interesting session.”

The Property Forum, which is being held at the Liverpool Empire between 1pm and 3pm today (Monday), is the second such event DLIB has organised this year.

In March, Manchester council leader Richard Leese told delegates Liverpool needed greater focus and leadership if the city’s renaissance was ultimately to be a true success.

Mr Leese, one of the key people behind the transformation of Manchester since 1996, said Liverpool also needed to stop comparing itself with its North West neighbours.

Today’s event will also include presentations from accounting giants Grant Thornton and Yorkshire Bank.
