Is there time to save the tram? The chairman of private sector lobby group Downtown Liverpool in Business, Frank McKenna, has joined the reignited debate about MerseyTram and warned that there is just a year left to save the project. With the land assembled for the project only banked until 2010 and indications from shadow home secretary Chris Grayling that the Conservatives would be unlikely to support the project, McKenna said: "The city region's public and private sectors must work together to lobby national politicians hard for their support for a MerseyTram scheme that would add so much value to the Liverpool economy. We have 12 months to save the tram and the business community has to demonstrate its unequivocal support for the initiative."
