INTRODUCTION
The summer is, incredibly, about to end, and before you know it we will all be busy preparing for the Christmas break! Before then though, your favourite business club will be hosting an array of first-class business networking events, including the final ‘Sexy Networking’ evening of 07, a Liverpool Property Forum featuring some of the city’s key decision makers, and the fifth – now legendary- annual ‘Livercool’ awards. Anyone hoping for a quiet August this year was as disappointed as those of us hoping for a heat wave! Mathew Street, the Culture Company, congestion charging and football ground moves will all feature in our bulletin next week. Meantime, enjoy the latest update…

BRABNERS CHAFFE STREET MOVE ON A HIGH
As leading Liverpool law firm Brabners Chaffe Street moves into its new headquarters in Horton House, part of the Exchange Flags Complex, they were also celebrating a 25% rise in annual fee income to £25million. On the new HQ Managing partner Michael Brabner commented: ‘ We are particularly delighted to be playing a major part in bringing one of Liverpool’s landmark buildings back to life, in the year of the city’s 800th birthday celebration, and in time for Capital of Culture’.

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
Opening Concert of the Season
Friday 14 September 2008 7:30pm
Philharmonic Hall

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vasily Petrenko, performs works by Rachmaninov and Ravel as well as two world premieres by John McCabe and Kenneth Hesketh.

Vasily Petrenko opens his second season as the RLPO's youngest ever and first Russian Principal Conductor with a welcoming flourish from the orchestra's Liverpool-born Composer in the House and a new orchestral work from the prolific Huyton-born composer John McCabe. Labyrinth is inspired by Williamson's Tunnels in the Edge Hill district, and, says the composer, 'is in celebration of the 800th anniversary of the city where I spent my early childhood'. Soprano Kate Royal, who has enjoyed a meteoric career since winning the 2004 Kathleen Ferrier Award, is the soloist in Ravel's ravishing Arabian Nights-inspired song-cycle Shéhérazade. Rachmaninov originally titled his three Symphonic Dances, 'Noon', 'Twilight' and 'Midnight', underscoring his autobiographical intent by quoting the radiant Resurrection Hymn from his All-Night Vigil (to be performed on 28 February 2008).
