DLIB corporate sponsor Albany Assets is releasing 5,000 square feet of space at its flagship Albany building in Old Hall Street to be turned into a restaurant. Company Chairman Chris Nisbet commented: “The restaurant space is being released to enable an operator to take advantage of Liverpool’s 800th birthday in 2007 and the Capital of Culture celebrations in 08, ensuring that any restaurant will have a flying start to its life.”  
     

   
 
Liverpool City Councils planning committee appears to have revised its approach to applications for residential developments in the city centre, as it approved three significant projects this week. A 22-storey tower for Liverpool’s waterfront on a site close to Leos Casino; a plan for 429 apartments by a joint venture company formed by David McLean and City Lofts; and a Grosvenor project that includes a luxury hotel and 47 apartments at Canning Place, were all given the green light at the most recent planning meeting.  
     

   
 
A pioneering £10 million development at Formby Hall Golf Club will be finished in time for the 2008 Open Championship at the nearby Royal Birkdale and will be the only golfing academy of its kind in the country. Michael Hanlon, Managing Director of Maghull Developments, said: “We are delighted to be working with both the PGA and Formby Hall Golf Club on this unique and exciting project.”  
     


   
 
Public sector agencies have experienced the same sort of frustrations that many private developers have suffered since the award of World Heritage Status (WHS) was bestowed upon the city some three years ago, with news that heritage watchdog UNESCO have objected to plans for a new museum building at the Pier Head.
