INTRODUCTION |
| Spring has finally arrived, and with it a good deal of optimism for the months ahead. And why not? Peel holdings have announced exciting plans to transform the north docks, as thier other major Liverpool asset JLA continues to go from strength to strength. Its full steam ahead for Liverpool PLC and the merger of the quangos. The new cruise liner landing stage will be unveiled within weeks. And the city was the star of the show at the property fest that is MIPIM. To celebrate this new air of positivity, DLIB is preparing a bonanza of business events throughout the spring and summer, including our first major business conference. THREE INTO ONE WILL GO |
| Liverpool Vision, Liverpool Land Development Company and Business Liverpool will be swept away within the next twelve months, to be replaced by a single agency, in an attempt to streamline and rationalise the array of quangos that operate in the city. Business Leaders have welcomed the move, which DLIB called for three years ago. |

OOPS! |
| Liverpool City Councils financial difficulties may increase with news that property developer Bill Davies is taking legal action against the authority over his failed bid to develop a multi-million pound scheme at Chavasse Park. Apparently, Mr. Davies’ Walton Group held an option on the prime site, which was subsequently handed over to Grosvenor for their Liverpool One project. The news comes as opposition Councillors claim a massive £29 million black hole exists in the budget for capital of culture year, 2008. |

THE RUMOUR MILL |
A new section for 2007, where we, very carefully, repeat some of the outrageous things that have been whispered to us in the corridors of power and beyond about life in our wonderful city…
Could it be true that the Chairman of DLIB Frank McKenna and Directors Club Chief Executive Dean Sullivan are about to go head to head in a contest that will, quite literally, be a laughing matter? Watch this space! And we hear that a ‘swingers club’ is about to open in the Duke Street area of the city – and we don’t think this establishment is looking for those who enjoy the music of the Rat Pack…On a more serious note, demands are said to be growing behind the scenes at the Town Hall for the ‘Summer Pops’ to go through another tender process next year when, hopefully, they return to Liverpool. Some senior council Members are somewhat miffed as to how the Aintree deal was contrived to save this years ‘pops’, and they want a more transparent approach in 2008. Good luck to them with that one…
