‘TALL BUILDINGS VICTORY FOR DOWNTOWN’
Council Leader Warren Bradley has formally announced the abandonment of the notion of a ‘tall buildings’ policy in Liverpool. This is a welcome move, and one that DLIB has been urging for over eighteen months now. We can only hope that this signals a real change in the attitude of the city council in relation to property development in Liverpool. Let us see a more balanced view of Liverpool’s ‘heritage’ and more flexibility in the interpretation of the Governments Housing Market Renewal Initiative (HMRI). Then, Liverpool really will be able to maximise the opportunities and potential that 2008 offers.

LABOUR GAINS, BUT LIB DEMS STILL LEADERS OF LIVERPOOL
The Labour Party gained three seats on Liverpool City Council in the local election contest earlier this month, but the Liberal Democrats still have a comfortable majority. Nevertheless, given the significant collapse of Labour support in most other areas of the country, it seems apparent that recent council shenanigans did have a negative impact on the controlling party’s support locally.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE REDS
In a thrilling FA Cup Final, Liverpool secured another famous penalty shoot out victory over London rivals West Ham. It was fitting that home grown talent Steven Gerrard proved the hero once again, and it is to be hoped that his tremendous form continues into the World Cup Finals.

BRABNERS CHAFFE STREET JOINED BY LEADING SPORTS LAW TEAM
Brabners Chaffe Street is expanding by joining forces with one of the country’s highest profile sports law teams headed by Manchester United Director Maurice Watkins.
Mr Watkins, senior partner at James Chapman & Co, is taking his 28-strong team to Brabners Chaffe Street. He commented: “The commercial and sports team is very pleased to be joining Brabners Chaffe Street. The partners have been evaluating the way forward for the whole practice over a number of months and while we will be sad to part from our colleagues in the insurance team, we are confident that both sides of the business have chosen the most appropriate partners to ensure continued success and growth.”
While the deal is expected to complete by the end of April, the James Chapman team will join their new colleagues at Brabners Chaffe Street when they move into their prestigious new offices in Manchester in June.
