LIVERPOOL ONE CAMPAIGN
DLIB’s ‘Liverpool One campaign’ is gathering momentum and having an impact both locally and nationally. Since Frank McKenna’s call for a streamlined approach to Liverpool government and business support at the ‘Livercool’ awards dinner last November, a number of encouraging initiatives have taken place. NEW FUND TO FINANCE LIVERPOOL PROPERTY PROJECTS
Liverpool Property Forum sponsors, Yorkshire Bank, have given a £100 million vote of confidence in the local economy. The bank is establishing an innovative new fund aimed at providing finance for developers setting up property schemes in the region. Read more

BID REJCTED
The proposal to formalise a city central Business Improvement District (BID) has been rejected in a ballot of local businesses. A second vote will be organised, but without changes to the way the initiative will be financed, DLIB remains sceptical about a Liverpool BID. Another worry for those promoting the idea – only 36% of those eligible to vote bothered to do so. Read more

NO CASH FOR CULTURE YEAR – IS THE GOVERNMENT RIGHT?
Liverpool has received £5 Million of government grant to support the delivery of the Capital of Culture 2008, but civic leaders claim that a bigger financial injection is needed. The Prime Minister has made it clear that no additional monies will be given. Is the government right? Should Liverpool ‘do a Glasgow’ and deliver CoC by standing on its own two feet?

LIVERPOOL SEARCHING FOR NEW SUPREMO
City Councillors have rejected a proposal to provide current Chief Executive, Sir David Henshaw, with a £200,000 sweetener to keep him in post until 2008. Liverpool will be on the look out for a new supremo to take the reigns and deliver a successful Capital of Culture year. Is Sir David’s imminent departure good or bad for the city? You decide.
