James Barton
The Collins English Dictionary defines an entrepreneur as a person who attempts to profit by risk and initiative: James Barton has taken many risks and has unquestionable initiative. His success has come with the hard work and dedication he puts into his companies and innovations. James is Chief Executive of The Cream Group which is the corporate umbrella for 6 entertainment & leisure related companies, with interests in, Events, Festivals, TV Production, Radio Production, Records and Media. He is considered as the driving entrepreneurial force behind the brands development and is one of the UK's most prolific figures in the Music industry. Born on August 28th 1969, James grew up with 3 brothers in a traditional family in the heart of Liverpool. He received his education at Campion High School in Everton Valley and left at the age of 16 with one CSE in Home Economics. In 1992 he started a club night called Cream which went on to become one of the greatest dance clubs in the world, defining a revolution that's mirrored all over the world today. Over 3000 people from across the UK came to attend a club that represented a way of life as opposed to being just a source of entertainment. From this, Cream achieved extraordinary success in the record and compilation market and to date have sold over 2.8million units. Its logo is one of the most widely recognised in the worldwide youth market and a decade on remains at the forefront of 'cool' UK exports. Universally, the Cream brand continues to grow due to their extensive event schedule and currently host over 350 international events a year. One of those is the annual Creamfields festival which started 6 years ago and is the only brand to take its festival concept global. It has now been staged in Poland, Czech Republic, Argentina, Ireland and Turkey with each event attracting between 30-40,000 people. 2004 will see Creamfields move into 10 other territories. James moved to London in 1994 when he was headhunted to be director of A&R at Deconstruction Records. He resigned in 1999 due to the unprecedented opportunity for growth taking place within the Cream empire. Despite living in London, his heart remains in Liverpool. His love of the city is such that he has proved himself to be a powerful force within the business community, he is a committed Liverphile and has received the accolade of 'Ambassador of the City'.
