Albany Assets Announce Plans To Build 44 Storey Tower In Manchester City Centre

Liverpool based developers and DLIB corporate supporter Albany Assets, have announced their intention to construct an £83 million, forty-four-storey glass tower within the Piccadilly district of central Manchester subject to Planning Permission being granted by Manchester City Council on 6 June 2005.

Comprising of 237 residential apartments, ten storeys of Grade A commercial space and a restaurant at ground floor level, the spectacular development will tower 131m above the Manchester skyline.

Award winning Architect Ian Simpson has designed the building. Ian Simpson is also responsible for the design of the 47-storey Manchester Beetham Tower – the tallest residential structure in the UK, due to be completed in 2006

The still-to-be-named Albany Assets tower will be situated on the site of Crown Building – a former Labour Exchange – at the junction of Aytoun Street and Auburn Street, Manchester. One side of the building will front onto the Rochdale Canal.

Subject to Planning Permission, Albany Assets intend to commence demolition of Crown Building before the end of 2005 and start construction early in 2006.

The Piccadilly area of Manchester is set for a dramatic regeneration. Amongst others, developers Argent and Inacity have also announced plans for major developments in the immediate area. The Piccadilly Partnership has been formed as a collective organisation of developers to act as a private representative body.

Chris Nisbet, Chairman of Albany Assets, said
“We are very excited with the plans that we have for our flagship Manchester project. Ian Simpson’s designs for the building are stunning and are reflective of Manchester’s world-class status. Manchester is an exciting, vibrant city and our proposals, along with those of our fellow Piccadilly Partnership members, will create a spectacular new vista within the city, which will be especially dramatic when viewed from Piccadilly Station. We are proud to be playing a part in the continued regeneration of Manchester and the North West region.”
