Medicash
As Liverpool celebrates the beginning of the next chapter in its history, one of the city’s oldest residents has equal cause for celebration, as Medicash celebrates its 135th anniversary.
Founded in 1871 as the Liverpool Hospital Saturday and Sunday Funds and later the Penny in the Pound fund, members paid a penny out of every pound that they earned to ensure they could receive treatment at the voluntary hospital.
Today Medicash Health Benefits Limited, as it is now known, continues this tradition by providing medical cover to over 150,000 members nationwide - yet still remains a not-for–dividend organisation.
To celebrate, Medicash is to host a gala evening at Liverpool’s Crowne Plaza hotel, on Thursday 28th September, which will culminate in a record-breaking donation of £270,000 to charity.
Charities from across the UK have been selected to receive a portion of the award, however it has been confirmed that at least £200,000 will be distributed amongst charities based on Merseyside.
